The busy offseason for the Calgary Flames continued on Thursday, as the team signed Nazem Kadri to a seven year, $49 million deal. The soon to be 32 year old centre is coming off his most productive season of his career, racking up 87 points and helping the Avalanche capture their third Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Monahan traded
In order to make room for Kadri, the Flames had to trade a major core piece, Sean Monahan. He was dealt to the Montreal Canadiens along with a 1st round pick with conditions that will give you a headache. Although the last few seasons didn’t pan out for Monahan (mostly due to injuries), he was a staple for this team for several years.
By adding Kadri, the Flames are deeper at the centre position than they have been in a very long time.
